Welcome to EČ

Howdy! I put together this page to showcase some of my art. I own the domain, so I may as well use it for something other than storage, right? I love most every art form; from music and photography to fashion to web design. I am a twenty-two year old senior in college and I am majoring in English. I intend to pursue a career in secondary education. The purpose of this page is simply to highlight some of the art I create on my beloved computer; web, level, and graphic design. I have taught myself each of these trades slowly over the years. I am not looking for job offers and I do not work by request, though if you pitch an idea that's inspiring enough I may make an exception. That's all I've got. Thanks for stopping by!

Web Design

Emazing!

This is my most recent design. Here I expanded upon some of the things I learned with my other layouts. Aside from the banners linking to my favorite gaming communities, and the embedded flash objects, this represents 100% original work.

My goal here was simply to further refine my knowledge of CSS. At this point my understanding of this language along with HTML is rather solid. I intend to move on to working with PHP and MySQL, as well as Flash. Of course, time is such a precious commodity hell will probably freeze over before I produce anything worth publishing!

Trying something different

For this profile I rendered a scene in Hammer for the Half-Life: Source engine. The original shot can be seen further down this page in the Level Design section. After capturing a screenshot, I touched it up in Photoshop and then built the profile around it. Rolling over some of the links pop up boxes with the usual info you'd expect to find on a Myspace profile.

Color and Shape

The driving force behind this layout was a desire to make effective use of every color of the rainbow, and to employ non-rectangular shapes. This was also the first time I explored the amazing potential of CSS.

Myspace is a boring place, and I decided that if I was going to have a Myspace page of my own, it needed to stand out. While I have been doing web design for many years, this is the first piece I found myself really proud of. I used some clip art for a few of the blue icons, but otherwise, as with the vast majority of my work, this design was done from scratch.

The thumbnail on the left is a screenshot of the current version of the page (click to visit), while the the opposite thumbnail is a shot of the layout themed for Winter/Christmas (click to view a full size screen cap).

Level Design

de_gallery (September 13, 2006)

After three months in the making, God only knows how many hours, 3 external test builds and 30 something internal builds, it is my pleasure to present my freshmen foray into the world of mapping; de_gallery. My goal was to create something unique, and I believe I have succeeded. This difference is first apparent aesthetically, and is further exemplified in the map's layout and the way it plays. A haven for those who fear (or loathe) sniper rifles, de_gallery's focus on close quarters combat forces players to leave their instagibbing AWPs at home. While relatively small from an orthographic, top-down perspective, the Z axis received a lot of love, which adds excitement to fire-fights and allowed for a plethora of routes to be woven into the map's sequestered confines. This provides the player multiple, viable paths to any given location and allows the clever man (or woman) to outthink an opponent as opposed to simply outgunning him, while still adhearing to a coherent, linear design.
